Sophie’s Bedroom; Boho Vibes

The goal: Design a room for a child becoming a teen

Children’s rooms need to be designed in a way that can grow with them - and that’s exactly what we achieved in this project. Sophie, 11, wanted this bedroom to have have a feminine, playful feel with a sophisticated edge.

With her slanted ceiling, we chose to colour block the wall using Boudoir by Benjamin Moore and White Heron. This added personality and visually worked well in this room. I added a neutral rug to the space to tie in with the decor and soften the look against the dark hardwood floors.

The simple change of hardware on the IKEA Hemnes dresser made this piece unique to the room and gave it a feminine feel. Sophie painted some wall art to add a personal touch which we hung above the dresser. I added a DIY pendant light above her bed and hung white curtains high on the wall to give the illusion of a larger room. This was all complemented by boho decor and various plants.

When it comes to small spaces, Sophie’s room is right up there so the goal was to utilize every space available. In order to do that, we converted her unused closet into a built-in desk nook so she can have a place for her to do her homework, craft and store her (many!) books.

Paint: Boudoir, White Heron, Benjamin Moore.
