Oakdale Master Bathroom

The Goal: to create a spa-like retreat!

Don’t you just want to cozy up with a book and soak in this tub all evening?! I DO!!! This bathroom has the ultimate calming vibe and spa-like feel - from the natural wood touches to the simple modern furniture and crisp white walls, you instantly feel at peace in this space.

BEFORE AFTER

Let’s start off with my favourite and possibly the most dramatic change of this bathroom - the TUB!! By replacing the alcove built-in Jacuzzi with a freestanding soaker tub it added more square footage to this already large bathroom. We chose a bathtub with a clean modern look and installed it against the wall for ease of moving in and out of the tub and allowing access to the window shades (*an issue in the past for my clients). Now there is room for plants (yay!) and a basket for easy to grab towels.

We kept the layout of this bathroom the same - a huge expense spared when you don’t have to move plumbing (*hot tip!) - so that meant 2 single sink vanities on either side of the corner window. Two freestanding oak vanities replaced the original built-in ones. The natural oak provides this white bathroom with warmth and topped with carrara marble gives it a luxe feel and timeless look.

I LOVE to mix and match hardware and this bathroom was no exception! We went with a combination of matte black and champagne bronze to give this bathroom contrast, warmth and depth - from the existing vanity lights to THESE arch mirrors, tub filler and shower hardware, this bathroom has the perfect mix of the two. The tub filler and shower fixtures are from the Delta line in champagne brass. The vanity faucets are also Delta in matte black - clean lines and simple in design contribute to the serene vibe of this room. The globe pendant light was a fun HomeSense find and ties in perfectly with the existing sconce lights.

Further natural elements were added to this room with wicker, natural jute rugs, Turkish towels and of course plants! With all of this natural light, how can you not add plants to this room?! Plus, some plants LOVE humidity so this is the perfect room for all of those beautiful tropical houseplants!

The art added was a mix of items my client’s already had on hand including a portrait a family member had painted a long time ago. I love incorporating family treasures into my designs because they are what make your house your home! This painting is a special contribution of just that!

Let’s not ignore the tile - the star of this bathroom!! I was SOO excited to use the basket weave marble mosaic for the heated floors. It is the first thing you notice when you walk into the room and it really is perfect for this space. These beautiful tiles feel soft underfoot providing a non-slip flooring but create drama with the black, white and gray contrast. This combined with the large 24x24 statuary venato porcelain tile that make up the shower enclosure and the backdrop for the tub surround work well to complement each other. It was important to me to have the tiles installed close together to create the effect of one large tile on the wall without the price tag of purchasing 1 slab of tile. For the shower we went with a single glass panel to allow as much light into this alcove as possible and show off the gorgeous veins in the tile.

It is important in design to have a mix of styles in a room to avoid your room feeling too stark, cold and modern or too old, stuffy and dated and this bathroom is the perfect example of how to properly mix the old with the new!

I love the natural light in this bathroom! Once the room was painted white, it made it brighter, cleaner and more inviting. The white walls are a calm and simple backdrop allowing the other elements - warm wood vanities, brass accents & gorgeous tile - in the room to shine.
